From the Pastor

Open Door Baptist Church
Thursday, July 5, 2012
According to an article in U.S. News & World Report (April 24, 1995, p. 20), Lon Grammer claimed some impressive credentials when he transferred to Yale from Cuesta Community College in San Luis Obispo, Calif., including a 3.9 grade point average. He did well at Yale, too, playing rugby while earning a B average. But a bare month before he was to graduate with a degree in political science, Yale expelled the 25-year-old and charged him with taking $61,475 under false pretenses. School officials say he lied about his GPA and forged recommendations from nonexistent teachers. In a TV interview, he pleaded that his actions were no worse than what happens every day when people lie on resumes.

Lies are commonplace, they are often difficult to navigate around, and they affect our lives every day. One of the lies people believe is that “there’s more than one way to live forever.” Unfortunately for those who believe this lie, the ultimate Judge of the universe will expel any person that does not have the right “transcript.” It’s odd to think that schools of learning and other institutions should be able to be so “narrow minded” while God, some argue, shouldn’t be. Thankfully, in the midst of the chaos of lies, there’s a bright and shining bulwark of Truth declared in the Bible and embodied by God Himeslf! It makes a big difference about what we believe, so I pray you’re following what is right and true!

I look forward to seeing you on Sunday! The God of Truth seeks to change our lives as we come together to worship Him and hear from His Word!

In Him,

Pastor Dennis M. Schaffer
