What is this weekend all about, and for what am I asking God?
One of the profoundly awesome opportunities we have is to celebrate two events that forever changed the world.
First event: Jesus' crucifixion and death on the cross. It was bloody and cruel, and it was for you and me. Jesus went to the cross as part of God's loving plan to pay for our sin--everyone's everywhere through all time. That's huge!
Second event: Jesus' resurrection from the tomb. Three day after dying on the cross, Jesus raised from the dead, and walked out of the tomb. Afterward, Jesus met with His followers and reminded them of all He had taught them. Sometimes there were more than 500 people gathered. And He asked them to share His Good News with the world that forgiveness of sins is available to all who believe!
As folks understand these earth-shaking events from 2,000 years ago, I am praying sinful hearts will turn to Him for salvation and redeemed hearts will be renewed with love for Him!
Here's what is going on at Open Door Baptist Church this weekend:
1. Friday, March 29, at 7pm: Jesus in the Passover. Jesus' last supper was a Passover seder from which Christians now observe communion. Dr. Al Reichman will demonstrate a Jewish Passover dinner, and you'll see the many symbols that point to Messiah' death and resurrection. Share the event!
2. Sunday, March 31, at 9am and 10:30am: Resurrection Sunday Services. Preschool care will be available for all services. A continental-style breakfast will be available before the 9am service. Listen to and sing Easter music and see the resurrection in Scripture. Our annual Easter Egg Race will follow the 10:30am service for preschoolers and elementary-age children. Share the event!
Invite friends and family to come with you, and let's celebrate that salvation is available for all who turn to Jesus in faith!
In Christ,
Pastor Dennis Schaffer
