Getting Involved
Steps to Connect
Coming to Open Door Baptist Church, we want you to make two realizations. First, Open Door is just the place for you—a special place where you feel at home! Second, Open Door is just the place for others you know and meet. Our parish and the adjoining Baton Rouge population comprises 350,000 people that need to know of Christ's love and salvation!
Here's how we do it...
01
It all starts with Jesus
Jesus is God, and He proved this by His life, words, and deeds. In fact, God chose to love us while knowing we are sinners (Romans 5:8, 12), so we can, in turn, know Him and have everlasting life (John 3:16). Our sin separates us from God, and it requires a payment to be made. Jesus died on the cross and rose again from the dead 2,000 years ago (1 Corinthians 15:3-4), so we do not need to make the payment by enduring eternal death (Romans 3:23; 6:23).
Jesus wants to save you and said, “He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life…” (John 3:36). Going to Heaven isn't about being good or religious--it's all about knowing Jesus. The best decision you can ever make is to ask God to forgive you of your sin and save you, surrendering your life to follow Him. “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Romans 10:13).
Jesus helps us grow
After we know Christ, He helps us grow through a process called discipleship. It's like taking one step at a time as you mature. The hope is that one day, you will also be able to help others know Christ and follow Him . Being a church member connects you with others who also know Christ, giving you an opportunity to learn from them and to encourage others.

Follow Jesus' example to serve
One of the great opportunities that comes to you as a member of our church is contributing in ways that make a difference for eternity. As we grow and mature, we realize that investing our time, talents, and treasures makes a bigger difference in the world than any other endeavor. We encourage our church family to get involved by giving and serving faithfully. Many ministry team service areas are available.
Let us help you connect with Christ and our church family!
I hope you'll accept my personal invitation to attend our Connecting Pointe Class/Seminar. Here, you'll discover what God is doing and get a "big picture" view of what God could do in and through you. We meet during the Sunday school time at 9:30am. If you have any questions or would like to register, please do so with the link below.
Pastor Dennis Schaffer
Sunday school is "the church organized." Much of what we do centers around Sunday school.
Sunday school is not about cramming more knowledge into our heads, it's about having a passion for God and making a difference in a positive way.
Sunday school groups prepare us for life by teaching us the principles God provides in the Bible.
It's for all age groups and walks of life. Preschoolers, kids, teens, and adults all have age-appropriate groups.
Sunday school is uniquely equipped to help with the mission of the church. We want to share the Gospel, see people saved, help people grow, and pass our faith on to new generations.
Sunday school classes care about each other. It's a place to experience and share life with others who are often facing the same things, and when you need help, you're friends will be there for you.
Ministry Teams are a great way to build relationships while making an eternal difference in the lives of others.
We are grateful to partner with families desiring to invest in our next generation. All of our ministries are distinctively Christian and Biblically-based.
The Open Door Child Development Center cares for infants and preschoolers, and hosts before/after-care and summer camp programs for young people.
