How to Have a New Family

In "Home Alone," the classic Christmas comedy from 1990, little Kevin McCallister endured some situations that made him wish that his family would disappear. He got his wish through a strange turn of events that sent his family on vacation without him, and he ended up staying, as the title suggests, home alone.

Don't we all wish, at times, we could at least make the problems in our families disappear? (Hopefully, we don't wish our families would disappear!)

In the movie, Kevin faces his own set of problems via two bandits, and he especially misses his mom. (By the way, tomorrow is Mother's Day, and we will celebrate the moms in our lives who have inspired our faith. We also have a special gift prepared! God created moms, so I invite you to honor God's creation by being at the service.)

By the end of "Home Alone," Kevin's family comes home and is reunited in the typical happy movie way. The McCallister family also learns some simple lessons about what makes a family special, and as we watch we are again confronted with the wishes of having a family where things work out perfectly.

Tomorrow, we'll begin taking those wishes we have for a new family and start helping to make it happen. I promise, if you'll come or watch, you'll receive wisdom from the Bible that is applicable to your life and will start making a difference no matter what your address is.

The new family series will carry us about six weeks into mid-summer, so plan to come, and invite others to enjoy it with you! Oh, yeah, the title is "How to Have a New Family Today."
