A Note from Pastor Dennis Schaffer
Psalm 1 is our guide as we discover and renew our passion and commitment to serving Christ and reaching our world.
What do you do when you realize your understanding or definition of a concept or word is different than what you knew it to be?
Prosperity is one of those popular words used often this time of year. You may have even wished someone to have a "prosperous new year." What does that mean when we look at our theme verse in Psalm 1:3, which says, "...And whatsoever he doeth shall prosper"?
Journey the Psalm 1 path with us in January as we learn how God says to be blessed! January 12: 9:30am, Sunday School Studies; 10:30am, "The Path of Prosperity;" 6pm, "Praying for Servants." Ask God to bless as we follow Him!
Is prosperity the "American Dream" or having so much stuff that there's nothing about which to worry?
God has a much better, simpler, and true view of prosperity than the lies of the world and religious pirates who've twisted the Gospel message for self-gain.
Prosperity has everything to do with our relationship to God and His Word, and this side of life it may look like anything but prosperity to the world. Thankfully, God defines things differently!
Jesus' life on earth did not appear very prosperous--He was a pauper with no home--however, if we believe He is God, it would be foolish for us to think that His life was not prosperous. There was a blessedness and understanding of prosperity inside of Christ that gave Him joy as He served others according to the Father's will.
We often forget that the rule of prosperity is not always immediate. What Jesus did in His life and sacrifice prospered later because He opened the way for lost sinners to know Him. His investment became a way of prosperity for others.
Here we find an important key. Prosperity blesses others--and the joy of prospering others becomes our personal joy of prosperity.
I invite you to look into this more with us tomorrow and this whole month!
Blessings,
Pastor Dennis Schaffer
There are two key Sunday evenings I hope you will plan to attend, January 19 and 26.
January 19 at 6pm, we will have a stewardship banquet with delicious food that will be prepared (sign up bring something, too) and commit via a form to some basic faith step areas as well as being willing to let God lead and develop each of us beyond where we are now.
January 26 at 6pm, we will have a "ministry fair" for everyone who is willing and wanting to serve. This will be an exciting event as we invite you and others to serve together and be a part of our mission, which is "inviting people to Jesus Christ, the Open Door of Salvation, Strength, and Service.)
I am rejoicing that God has blessed our church with 57 years of opportunities to share the Gospel, and He isn't done yet! Since relocating to Denham Springs in the early part of this century, we are seeing a new generation rise up and lead with seasoned saints, and it is exciting to see the zeal and creative ideas God is fostering.
Now is not the time to quit and let the world be victorious. No matter who you are and what you have faced, God has always been faithful and gracious. Let's encourage and equip each other for this day and this hour. Christ's return is soon and on the horizon. Let's be found as good stewards who are faithful.
