The significance of the Easter resurrection is highly underrated.
When we think of Jesus' resurrection, it is a great reason to celebrate it as a true "holy day" (from which we get the word holiday).
I love what the angels asked the women who first approached the tomb that first Sunday morning after Jesus died: "Why seek ye the living among the dead?" We celebrate a very powerful, true event in world history!
But sometimes in the celebration of holidays, we may dislodge the personal significance of them. Let me explain.
It's easy as a pastor to get excited about celebrating Easter. In part because it's also typically the easiest day of the year to get people come to church! People seem to come out of the woodwork to celebrate with us on this one Sunday a year what we ought to be celebrating every Sunday of the year--the resurrection.
When the story of the resurrection is personal, it is because Jesus' resurrection has done a real miracle in us. It is not just a remarkable, yet impersonal Bible story that happened long ago, but it happened in our lives, too!
Philippians 3:10 declares the desire that you and I should long to have about Christ: "That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection..."
The resurrection of Jesus, then, is a game changer for every day and eternal life. As such, my prayer is that you know Him personally and that you are living every day in the same power that raised Him from the dead--that's really powerful!
We'll celebrate Jesus' miraculous, resurrected life on Sunday! Come rate it highly with us!
God bless,
Pastor Dennis Schaffer
