VBS, Father’s Day, People Doing Difficult Things

I am pleased to share that God is still at work, and He has the ability and desire to save and change lives now just as He always has!
As a case and point, this week, we saw God do great things at Vacation Bible School! The theme for VBS this year is "The Incredible Race." While the kids did participate in races and competitions, the focus was on teaching Biblical principles about how God made everyone, how we are all sinners, and how God has a plan to save us. Several young people heard about Christ and trusted Him for salvation!
Sunday at 10:30 A.M., we are going to celebrate dads and family by wrapping up with a VBS presentation of songs and a video highlighting some of the things that God has done. After the service, we also have Dad's root beer for the dads and will have hotdogs for everyone. It is hot, so for the kids (and adults who want to share in the fun), we'll also have a 22-foot, dual-lane water slide (bring shorts, t-shirts, and towels).
I want to say that it is a joy to serve with a church family who is willing to do some difficult things to make life better for others. We had about 60 workers who jumped in to serve the Lord and make VBS a success. Serving is part of the heartbeat of Open Door.
On Father's Day, we'll learn from a scene in Jesus' ministry where a father's desire for his child became a teachable moment for the disciples. The lesson they learned meant that they would need to learn to do a difficult thing, some heavy lifting of sorts. My prayer for us as we prepare to worship together on Sunday at 10:30 A.M. is that we will all be willing to make a difference in others' lives by doing what God asks of us. If we are willing, God says that our faith has the power to change things for His glory.
