What waterpot are you leaving behind?

What waterpot are you leaving behind?

It's not unusual after a church service or event for someone to leave behind their drink cup. You know. One of those obnoxiously large adult sippy cups that help folks stay hydrated. That's probably the closest thing to a Bible-times waterpot some of us use each day.

We don't use waterpots much since the advent of running water, but there's something to discover from the waterpot of "the woman at the well."

Jesus was thirsty, and His thirst placed Him at a special well in Samaria for a divine appointment. There's a nameless woman who came to draw water, and after this event her life and the that of her town would forever be changed.

In a spirited exchange of words, the woman realized in her heart the need of to know the Messiah! At once, when the truth bubbled up in her soul, she ran off to town to tell everyone about Jesus.

But when she left, there was also something left behind as pointed out in John 4:28--"The woman then left her waterpot..."

I think that waterpot that was left behind is a sermon in itself, and we'll look at it 10:30 A.M. Sunday. The woman came with an empty waterpot needing to be filled, and, instead, her life was filled for the first time with "living water" (John 4:10).

What empty waterpots are we and others trying to fill with temporary things when Jesus is available to be a well of life?

Open Door is in a time of blessing, and it's also a time of being busy following Jesus' example to be about our Father's business sharing Jesus with others like that precious, broken woman.

My prayer for you is that you will be blessed like this woman who found Jesus to be "living water" and would never thirst again.

Remember to turn your clocks forward an hour tonight, and sign up for the Blessed Family Focus Weekend on Saturday-Sunday, March 29-30.

Blessings,
