When in Rome

A study of the letter of Paul to the Romans

From Ostia's port along the Tiber River, a smooth and secure road ushered Phoebe on her journey to the marble city of Rome. It was a magnificent, awe-inspiring scene of power and greatness!

Phoebe did not leave Corinth to celebrate and discover the glories of Caesar, however. Her trip had a higher more austere purpose. She came to help Rome's citizens discover a greater, more powerful Person than the young Caesar-god Nero, the Roman Senate, and the pantheon of gods worshipped there.

Renan, a skeptic of the Christian faith, is credited with the statement that when Phebe sailed away from Corinth she “carried beneath the folds of her robe the whole future of Christian theology" (John Phillips, Exploring Romans: An Expository Commentary, The John Phillips Commentary Series (Kregel Publications; WORDsearch Corp., 2009).

Discover the wealth and vastness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ that shapes our beliefs and our lives. It's a Gospel greater than Caesars and was proven by the humble death and resurrection by the King of kings and Lord of lords Who gave Himself for us.
