The Season’s Reason

Hello, friend! I pray you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Some are still eating turkey and stuffing, and some have taken some non-traditional approaches to Thanksgiving dinner. Whichever you did, I am hoping you've had a great start to what many call the beginning of the "holiday season." I've bumped into a few of our church and ministry families the last few days around town. It's a joy to see others--especially with Covid keeping people "socially distanced."

For us, this "holiday season" is more than shopping and peppermint mochas. Media gurus twirl our world in their frenzies over such things, but as Christians our perspective is much larger. 'Tis the season we turn the pages of the Book with the most amazing story to learn that God came.

And God did not come just to give us ideas for good living and ways to recover after binge shopping, eating, and partying. God came then, so He could make a difference in your life today. And He especially came to make a radical change in your eternity.

What I've noticed this year is that since the end of October, our world has been getting set for what it does--Christmas decorations and sales abound. Hmmm...is Christmas as big as everyone seems to make it? Actually, it is much, much bigger than it is made out to be. Many of the current traditions are expensive, but those traditions, if not kept in perspective with the bigger story, serve to cheapen the Gift God gave us when He came.

So here is my invitation to you. I hope you'll sit back and hear the true story of Christmas with new ears. Sip on your peppermint mocha if you want. It's fun to explore the faces and places of the story, but see what it spells out for a world like ours--a world in need of a Savior, the Prince of Peace.

Come in-person to our Sunday morning services at 8:45 or 11:00, or watch online (website; Facebook) to worship and explore when "God Came."

If the story of Christmas makes a difference in your life, please let me know. And share the story with others, so they can learn the season's reason, too.

God bless us, every one,
Pastor Dennis M. Schaffer
