A Substitute for the Substitute

What would you do if God had a personal assignment for you? He does!

We glimpse the heartbreaking scene in John 19. Here is Jesus speaking to Mary, the mother who birthed and cared for Him as a human child. She sees His beaten, bleeding condition, knowing this earthly relationship they have enjoyed was coming to an end.

In that moment, Jesus does something very loving. Jesus turns to John, the "beloved disciple," and delegates the responsibility of caring for Mary to him.

In this grand picture, here is Jesus, Who is dying as a substitute for sinners, like Mary and John and all of us. Here Jesus asks John to substitute for Him to care for His mother. John would be the substitute for the Savior!

It's easy to see the application. As we go into this weekend considering our responsibilities, let's seek to represent Christ by what we do. Let's be faithful to the Lord and each other as we worship and share His wonderful loving message of grace with others. It makes a huge difference!

As we close in on Easter, I trust you are gleaning from our 10:30 Sunday morning look at the last things Jesus said on the cross before He died. Invite others to be a part of the services with you!

I pray you will be blessed as you serve the Savior!

In Him,
Pastor Dennis Schaffer
