Pirates and Gospel Truth

By Dennis Schaffer

At the same time I have been in awe about what God has been doing, I have found it easy at times to get distracted by life and its many details. It's like pirates stealing away what is valuable and important. With this in mind, the Lord brought me to a short personal letter that Paul wrote to a church planting pastor named Titus.

It's an intriguing letter because many of the people Titus ministered to were actually descendants of pirates. Unfortunately, marauding, greed, and twisting things for their own favor and pleasure was not easily conquered in their hearts. This cut a valley between the truth of the Gospel they knew and the personal lives they lived.

You could say that their identity as "pirates" kept pulling them the wrong way. What they needed was a good realignment to Christ's character and the Holy Spirit.

I know I need this--do you?

This Sunday, I hope to begin leading us through this short Book of Titus. It's a letter that Paul wrote to help Titus sure up some important things in the churches he led on the Mediterranean island of Crete, and there are some things we need to sure up in our lives, too.

Titus: Realignment

We'll see that our society today is a lot like it was on the island of Crete back then. If you like pirate stories, Crete is a great place to find them--and it's a great place to find the stories of people like us who found that life is best lived in truth, too.

I look forward to worshipping with guests and our church family on Sunday. If you are away, watch online via our website, Facebook.com/opendooronline, or Youtube.com/opendooronline.
